Royal Berkshire 6th Feb ’22
Round Sixteen of the championship was held at a very windy Royal Berkshire Fishery and after a night of heavy rain, plus taking into account that there was a match at the same venue on the previous day, the fishing was always going to be difficult.
The winner on the day was club chairman Ron Chenery who needed just 14lb 10oz to take the honours. Ron fished groundbait and a few micros on a small method feeder with maggot hookbait just off the island to take 10 F1’s for his winning catch. Ron was bite less for the first three hours of the match, but he patiently stuck to his tactics and the F1’s eventually turned up. Second place went to Alan Bright with a creditable 11lb 12oz which included a bream of 4lbs, and third was Clive Bunday with 10lb 2oz of F1s. The section winners were Frank ‘the bank’ Bursnall and Darren Chenery, and the specimen was won by Richard Day.
After Sixteen matches, not much has changed in the league table. The top three remain the same, but now only half a point separates Mike Smith and Keith Gibson for first and second place. Round seventeen is on the 27th February at Wood Lane.
