Chaley Park 6th March ’22
Round eighteen of the championship series was held at Chaley Park (main Lake), a new match venue for the rovers. We had high hopes for this venue, but unfortunately the recent drop in temperatures and a bitterly cold north easterly wind, made sure the weights were pegged back on the day.
The match got off to a very slow start, and with no signs of any fish moving, things were looking grim. It was Ryan Fairclough who was the first to catch, a double figure carp that was foul hooked in the tail. All eyes were on Ryan as he carefully played the carp as it was clear even at this early stage that it would be an important fish to land. Ryan eventually went on to catch another five carp to give him 26-1-0 which was just enough to win the match ahead of runner up Mike Smith who was less than a pound behind.
Third place went to Alistair Christie who put in another very good performance and the section winners were Ron Chenery and Mick Catten, and the specimen was won by Ryan with the foul hooked carp he had early doors. This was a great result for Mike who has further extended his lead at the top of the league table. Mike has been excellent throughout the series and looks odd on favourite for the title. There are however still five more rounds to go so the race is far from over yet and Mike still has some work to do. The next round is in two weeks’ time at Wood Lane.
