Pondwood 23rd Oct ’22
Torrential rain greeted us at Pondwood for round seven of the championship, but at least it was nice and mild, and we had some sunny spells when the rain eventually stopped.
Mike Smith scored his first win of the series with an excellent 54lbs of mainly small carp from peg 2. Mike fed micros and fished hard pellet and corn across to the far bank, but had most of his catch fishing corn down his left hand margin. Runner up was Ryan Fairclough who had 45lbs, which was made up of carp caught across and some ide form down the track. Third place went to veteran Rovers man Frank Bursnall, and the section winners were Mick Catten in section 4, and Glen Briggs, who was on favoured peg 13 on section 5. Mike Smith won the specimen with a carp of 8-2-0 to make it a nice double for him on the day.
There was more excitement to follow, as the day ended with a massive thunderstorm with further torrential rain and lightning which left us running to get back to our cars to take cover from the deluge.
